Hizbut Tawhid Holds Roundtable in the Capital to Ensure Human Rights and Freedom of Speech
“A Strong Ideological Struggle is Needed to Combat Extremism” — Emam Hossain Mohammad Selim
A significant roundtable discussion titled “Our Proposals to Ensure Human Rights and Freedom of Speech” was held in the capital. The event took place today, Saturday (April 25, 2026), at Fars Hotel & Resorts in Purana Paltan, Dhaka. The keynote presentation was delivered by the supreme leader of Hizbut Tawhid, Emam Hossain Mohammad Selim.
Highlighting the current global instability, Hossain Mohammad Selim stated that a brutal wave of human rights violations and suppression of freedom of speech is ongoing worldwide. Referring to examples from Palestine and Myanmar, he said that global systems, including the United Nations, have severely failed to establish peace and justice. Speaking about Bangladesh, he mentioned that in recent years, hundreds of mob violence incidents have claimed many lives, while extremism and communalism are increasingly taking hold in society. He emphasized that man-made governance systems and ideologies have failed, and that lasting peace can only be restored through the implementation of the balanced way of life prescribed by Almighty Allah.
Regarding the elimination of extremism, he presented a distinctive approach. He stated that extremism cannot be eradicated solely through force or legal measures, as extremists often perceive their actions as religious duties. Therefore, a strong ideological counter-narrative is essential. He stressed the need to present the true interpretations of the Qur’an and Hadith to refute extremist misinterpretations. He clearly stated that Islam does not permit individuals or groups to carry out armed attacks or killings independently; warfare (“Qital”) is not permissible without the authorization of a legitimate head of state.
During the discussion, he also proposed several measures, including ending imperialist aggression, promoting correct ideology against misleading doctrines, establishing the divinely guided system of life in the Muslim world, fostering unity and understanding among Muslim countries, and enhancing dialogue among different religions and communities.
Among those who participated in the discussion were: President of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Mohammad Shahidul Islam; former Joint General Secretary of the National Press Club Md. Ashraf Ali; Executive Editor of Manab Zamin Shamimul Haque; Chief News Editor (News & Current Affairs) of NTV Fakhrul Alam Khan; Editor of Green Watch Mostafa Kamal Majumder; News Chief and Special Correspondent of Daily Kalbela Md. Kabir Hossain; Special Correspondent of Bangla Tribune S.M. Abbas; Deputy Marketing Manager of The Financial Post Md. Mehedi Hasan; Joint General Secretary of Hizbut Tawhid Rufaidah Ponni; Dr. Mahbub Alam Mahfuz; S.M. Sasmul Huda; along with journalists, poets, writers, and other distinguished individuals.
