Emam Hossain Mohammad Selim, the top leader of the non-political movement Hizbut Tawhid, has stated that only Islam can truly ensure human rights, freedom of speech, and justice.

He made this remark on Saturday (April 25) at a roundtable discussion with media professionals held at Fars Hotel & Resorts in Purana Paltan, Dhaka.

Highlighting the ongoing global situation, the Emam of Hizbut Tawhid said that a brutal wave of human rights violations and suppression of freedom of speech is taking place worldwide. War is being imposed one after another on Muslim countries. International organizations, including the United Nations, have failed to address these injustices. They have not been able to protect even the basic rights of Muslims in Palestine and Myanmar.

Referring to the context of Bangladesh, the Emam of Hizbut Tawhid said that in the past two years, hundreds of mob incidents have occurred in the country. An extremist and communal group is creating chaos everywhere. Presenting a proposal to change the prevailing system, he said that Islam is often portrayed today as something frightening. However, it is a simple, balanced way of life ordained by Allah, and only through its establishment can the ongoing injustice and unrest be resolved.

He called for the implementation of Allah’s laws across all sectors, including the state, judiciary, military, and economy. He also presented several proposals, including fostering unity and understanding among Muslim countries and increasing dialogue among different religions and communities.

Others present at the meeting included Joint General Secretary of Hizbut Tawhid Rufaidah Ponni; Dr. Mahbub Alam Mahfuz; S.M. Sasmul Huda; President of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Mohammad Shahidul Islam; Head of News and Special Correspondent of Daily Kalbela Kabir Hossain; Chief News Editor of NTV Fakhrul Alam Khan; and former Joint Secretary of the National Press Club Md. Ashraf Ali.

Also present were Editor of Green Watch Mostafa Kamal Majumder; Executive Editor of Daily Manab Zamin Shamimul Haque; Special Correspondent of Bangla Tribune S.M. Abbas; Deputy Manager (Marketing) of The Financial Post Mehedi Hasan; and Media Communications Secretary of Hizbut Tawhid Sharmin Sultana Chaiti, among others.
